Restrictions

The VPID mandate is to provide safe and affordable water and sewer services to meet the needs of members of the Village Point Improvement District in perpetuity. In accordance with VPID Bylaw 122 and to help ensure a consistent supply of potable water throughout the year, the following regulations  apply:

Stage 1 : Automatic from October 1 to May 1 each year

  • No unattended watering allowed such as, but not limited to, hoses, sprinkler hoses, soaker hoses or a watering apparatus controlled by a timer such as a drip system.
  • Watering gardens or trees using hoses with nozzles allowed.
  • Filling hot tubs or wading pools allowed.
  • Washing cars or boats using hoses with nozzles allowed.
  • Washing decks, sidewalks, driveways, sides of houses and windows with hoses with nozzles allowed.
  • Pressure washing not allowed at any time, unless done with captured water.

Stage 2: Automatic from May 1 to September 30 each year

  • Washing decks, sidewalks, driveways, boats, vehicles, sides of houses and windows using hoses not allowed.
  • Watering gardens only allowed using handheld watering cans.
  • Filling hot tubs or wading pools not allowed.
  • Watering gardens using hoses with captured water is always allowed.
  • Watering newly planted trees with captured water is always allowed.
  • Pressure washing not allowed at any time, unless done with captured water.

Stage 3: Implemented at the discretion of the Water Manager

  • No filling hot tubs or wading pools.
  • No washing of vehicles or boats.
  • Watering gardens using VPID water not allowed.
  • Extreme caution in using household water: fewer showers, fewer flushes, fewer clothes washes,
  • rigorous checks of toilets and taps for leaks.
  • Pressure washing not allowed at any time, unless done with captured water.

During severe water shortages, it may be necessary to implement Stages 2 and/or 3 restrictions at times other than mentioned above to preserve our finite water resource. Notices will be posted and messages sent via email advising residents of any emergency measures.

In order to minimize the possibility of undetected water loss due to leaks, it is strongly recommended that residents shut off the water supply to their property at the street level if absent for more than 48 hours.

Anyone not following the above regulations may be subjected to having their water shut off and will need to apply to have it reconnected.

The storage of 1,000 gallons of rainwater for exterior purposes is encouraged as well as the installation of low flush toilets and restricted flow shower heads as recommended by the Mayne Island Integrated Water Systems Society.
