We’re looking for help with leak detection
We have been experiencing an unusual pattern of water use during the past couple of weeks, and we’re hoping you might be able to help us detect a possible leak.
Most of the time, daily water outflows are where they usually are at this time of year: around10-12,000 gallons per day. But on some days outflow has been much higher – over 18,000 gallons per day. Because the higher usage doesn’t persist, we don’t believe it’s a chronic leak. However, it’s possible that the higher flows are due to a homeowner leak for someone who has visited Mayne off and on in recent weeks, and turns off their water at the curb when they leave. This would mean that we were only losing the excess water when the resident was on the island, because the flow to the leak would be interrupted when they left Mayne. Here are the days during the past four weeks when outflow was unusually high outflows:
- January 14-16 (Tue-Thu)
- January 18-19 (Sat-Sun)
- January 20-21 (Mon-Tue)
- January 30-31 (Thu-Fri)
- February 3-4 (Mon-Tue)
- February 6-8 (Thu-Sat)
- February 15-17 (Sat-Mon)

While we’re on the subject of leaks, all VPID homeowners should be on the lookout for signs of leaks on their property, particularly after a spell of cold weather. If you see water pooling on your property where you don’t normally see it, or hear a continuous sound of rushing water when you open your homeowner valve, please let us know so we can look into it.
