Water Shut Off – Wednesday June 4th

WHAT

Water in the whole district will be turned off to search for water leaks, focusing on Leighton Lane, Lundy Lane, and Dinner Bay Road.

WHEN

Wednesday June 4th from 10am until approximately 4pm.

BACKGROUND

On May 21st, VPID operations staff conducted a leak detection operation focused on the east end of Mariners to Dalton and on Dalton. From this we were able to confirm that there were no leaks on the main water line in this area, and two possible leaks on homeowner properties. Water has been turned off to the suspect properties and the homeowners have been notified.

Overnight outflows of water from the treatment plant suggest there is still at least one leak of at least 3 gallons per minute somewhere else in the system. We would like to continue our search for this leak on Wednesday, June 4, focusing on Leighton Lane, Lundy Lane, and Dinner Bay Road. As for the previous search, water to the entire district may need to be shut off to facilitate our search.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Please leave your fixtures off (that is, don’t use water) until 4 pm or until we post a notice here on the vpid.ca home page that the water is back on. We may be able to restore water earlier than planned if we quickly detect the leak.

IF YOUR PROPERTY IS ON LEIGHTON, LUNDY OR DINNER BAY ROAD

During this exercise we will be concentrating our search on these three roads. If you have a property there with the water off, please email us at vpid651@outlook.com to give us permission to turn your water on for a short while. Without your permission our search won’t be quite as thorough.

FLUSHING TOILETS

If you wish to flush during the water outage, please turnoff your toilet water first from the valve below and behind. You can optionally refill the toilet tank from a bucket of water saved from before the outage.

HOT WATER TANKS

It is recommended to turn off the breaker for your hot water tank in the unlikely event that your line is drained. Same goes for pumps that depend on a steady supply of water.

HELP US IF YOU CAN

If you are on island during that time and can afford to spend some time with us, we could use some extra helpers – many hands make light work. If so, please send an email to vpid651@outlook.com.
