We will continue with rotating shut offs. So today Monday August 11th, we will shut off Spinnaker, Mariners and Callaghan from 10:00am till around 5pm.
The partial daytime water shut-offs seem to have had a positive effect. Last Monday morning our storage tanks were almost completely empty, due to an extraordinarily high outflow on the Sunday of the August long weekend – over 30,000 gallons. As you will remember, we turned off the water completely on August 5; we regained 17,000 gallons of storage before we turned it back on. On August 6 a lot of water was consumed, partly because we have to refill all the water lines after a complete water shut-off, and our storage dropped down below 10,000 gallons. Then we implemented the rotating partial shut-offs between 10 am and 5 pm every day since then, and daily outflows have been steady around 14,000 gallons per day, even on the weekend. This morning our storage was up to 15,000 gallons, before a water truck delivered an additional 3,500 gallons.
We believe that the partial shut-offs are both reducing consumption directly and motivating conservation, and we are grateful to the community for your cooperation. Because of this, we plan to continue the partial shut-offs going forward. We have a delivery of water coming tomorrow, and several deliveries scheduled for next week. Our storage is still far lower than we’d like it to be heading into the final long weekend of the summer.
We are also pleased to report that, based on monitoring overnight outflows, we do not believe we are currently experiencing any leaks.
