Update 5:00pm – Water still shut off

Summary: The water is still off for now.

As you are no doubt aware if you’re on Mayne, our water is still off. The crew has determined that the leak is along our main water line on Mariners Way, as noted in our previous update. To precisely locate the leak we need assistance from leak detection experts. Unfortunately, Pacific Leak Locators, the experts that helped us find the leak in 2024, are not available to come to Mayne until Tuesday.

In the meantime, we have contacted another leak detection expert from Saltspring Island who has agreed to come to Mayne this evening. He will be working with our crew this evening and tomorrow morning, using acoustic equipment designed to detect underground water flow. As soon as we have more news on his efforts we will update everyone.

As long as the water is shut off, we urge everyone to avoid using any taps, including showers, laundry, and dishwashers. You may use your toilet if you refill the tank with rainwater or other non-VPID water. As well, we encourage everyone to turn off the power to your hot water tank, in case the water drains out of it. This is likely to be the case if you live at higher elevations in the catchment (e.g., on Spinnaker Drive).

Again, we’re sorry for this major inconvenience. Be assured we are doing everything we can to provide you with a safe supply of water as soon as possible.
