We continue to be in a situation where water outflow from our treatment plant is unsustainably high, compared to the rates at which we can pump water from our wells. To address this situation we are planning to shut off water to half of the water district each night for the next four nights, from 11 pm to 8 am.
Tonight, if you live on Dalton Drive, Dinner Bay Road, Lundy Lane or Leighton Lane, your water will be shut off. Tomorrow night, if you live on Spinnaker Drive, Mariners Way west of Dinner Bay Road, or Callaghan Crescent, your water will be shut off. We plan to repeat this on Saturday and Sunday nights, but we will re-assess when we see how the total daily outflows from the treatment plant are affected by these partial overnight shut-offs. Note that if you live on Mariners Way east of Dinner Bay Road your water will not be shut off at all.
One benefit of shutting off water to part of the district is that it will help us identify possible leaks. We believe leaks are partially responsible for the high outflows, but we have yet to confirm this. If outflow from the treatment plant drops to close to zero in the middle of the night when we shut off water to a section of the district, it suggests the leak is in that section, because if it were elsewhere the outflow should continue through the night.
This tactic only works if households are not using water in the middle of the night. So regardless of where you live in the district, please refrain from using water between midnight and 4 am.
